Amarnath temple is one of the ancient temples of India. The presiding deity is lord Shiva who appears in the form of linga that is covered by snow. He is the supreme god of all the beings in the universe. Shiva is the god to all the gods in the universe and he is worshipped by everyone. He is called the lord of immortality.Every hindu’s life time wish is to go on a pilgrimage to Amarnath temple.

This temple is located at a high altitude in Jammu and Kashmir. Once Shiva told Parvathi devi about the importance of Amarnath linga and also the secrets of eternity of life. This linga is located in a cave. Amarnath temple is one of the sacred places for hindus all over the world. Amarnath linga is made up ice.

Discovery of Amarnath temple:

There are many stories behind the discovery of this temple. Some say that a shepherd’s bag of coal turned into gold after he met a saint. Later the shepherd searched for the saint but he only found the Shiva linga in the place of the saint. Some people say that Brugu maharshi discovered this linga and later became a pilgrimage for hindus.

This is swayambhu linga (formed on its own at Amarnath temple) which is more than 5000 years old. Most of the time in a year, this temple is covered with full of snow and this place becomes inaccessible by a common man. People are allowed to visit this temple only in a particular time in a year.
