The relation between pradakshinas and the universal law of movement:
Pradakshinas should be done around the sanctum in a clockwise direction. This is because, most of the objects in the universe like stars, planets, asteroids and even huge galaxies rotate and revolve in a clockwise direction. All the planets in our solar system except Venus and Uranus revolve around the Sun in a clockwise direction.
We get lots of positive energy if we move around temples. This is because temples have powerful chakras and yantras placed inside the sanctum.
In the temple of Shiva and his family like Parvathi, Ganesh and Kumaraswamy, one should do 3 pradakshinas or the multiples of 3 like 6, 9, 12 etc.
In the temple of Srimaha Vishnu and his avatars (incarnations) like Narasimha, Krishna, Venkateshwara etc, one should do 4 pradakshinas or the multiples of 4 like 8, 12, 16, 20 etc.
In the temple of Suryanarayana, one should do 4 pradakshinas.
One should perform 9 pardakshinas around Navagrahs to get good results.
