Hindu religion gives more importance in worshiping nature. Trees being a part of nature has acquired a special position.

The rishies of India researched on various trees and gave a lot of knowledge about its uses in protecting the nature. These are also helpful in curing many diseases. There are many trees and plants mentioned in Hindu mythology which are auspicious like tulsi, banyan, peepal, mango, neem, sandalwood, asoka etc.

Hindu mythology mentioned only some trees can be grown at home:

Maredu (beal) mandara, guava, and fruit bearing trees can be grown at home. One must not grow thorny plants and trees like arka tree, because the milk of arka tree is toxic.

Banyan tree also must not be grown at home, because the roots of this tree penetrate deep into the ground and spread under the house which results in developing cracks in the house and its surroundings and even sometimes may destroy the house. Kunkudu (sapindus) tree can be grown outside of the house.
